"Individualised Clinical Psychology to support you through the fertility, pregnancy, & postpartum journey"

FERTILITY SUPPORT

Infertility is a struggle faced by many couples and there can be huge challenges and impacts associated with infertility and the corresponding treatments. It is widely known that these difficulties may have significant impacts on both physical and psychological well being. However unfortunately, for a wide range of reasons, mental health is often neglected or pushed aside during this time.

The impacts of infertility and infertility treatment on mental health and quality of life, are vast, to the extent that the psychological impacts of infertility are often described as an "emotional rollercoaster". Emotions and experiences may include states of anxiety, depression, stress, adjustment, grief and loss, and isolation.

Eleanor believes that while all of these feelings are valid and common, it is so important to be aware that these feelings or states of mind can be detrimental longterm, and that seeking assistance in managing your mental health throughout the infertility treatment process is essential.

Eleanor understands how difficult it can be to get the support you need when experiencing infertility or undergoing fertility treatment. Continually explaining things to friends and family can be exhausting and so rarely do people around us know the right thing to say or do in response. It is so important to Eleanor that individuals going through this feel validated and can access tailored, compassionate and educated support and counselling in order to improve mental state and coping.

PREGNANCY & PERINATAL  SUPPORT

One in five expectant mothers, and at least one in 20 expectant fathers will experience depression and anxiety symptoms during the pregnancy and perinatal period. The earlier help is sought for these experiences, the more manageable they are, leading to faster recovery time and a reduction in risk of developing postnatal anxiety and depression.

Obviously it is normal and common to experience some degree of stress or anxiety during pregnancy, it is a huge physical and psychological adjustment! However this doesn't mean that we have to struggle. Eleanor is passionate about providing education, resources and strategies to women and their partners during pregnancy and before birth, in order to enhance the experience and improve overall coping. So whether you are concerned that you may be experiencing a mental health condition during pregnancy, or simply need some assistance coping with the big changes to your body, relationship and emotional state, Eleanor can assist with compassionate understanding and support.

POSTPARTUM COUNSELLING &  SUPPORT

New parenthood can be an amazing experience and a beautiful time, however it also comes with a unique set of challenges and difficulties. It is common for parents of a new baby to experience a wide range of both positive and unpleasant emotions in response these significant changes. Some common stressors may include; exhaustion and physical recovery, caring for older children, a change in family dynamics and the constant demands of a new born. There are also a range of impacts on a new parents mental health, including identity change, self-confidence and self-esteem, dealing with other peoples' expectations, and changes within relationships.

Mental health should always be considered during this time, and for some people, the impacts on mental health and emotional state can be significant. Increased levels of anxiety, sadness, isolation, guilt and shame, and low self esteem are just a few. It is so important to seek help and support early, as this will have a positive impact for you and your baby.  Eleanor can provide a thorough assessment of your emotional state and provide compassionate and non-judgemental support, resources and strategies to assist.
